Educational Visits to CCMB and CDFD: A Deep Dive into Science

On 3rd October 2024, students from classes 8 to 12 visited the National Centre for Cellular and Molecula Biology (CCMB), where they had a highly educational experience. The day began with a short film showcasing CCMB’s groundbreaking research in molecular biology and genetics, demonstrating its contributions to medicine and agriculture. This was followed by interactive lectures by scientists, who simplified complex topics like genetic mutations and cellular processes, encouraging students to ask questions.

The students also learned about the role of fruit flies in genetic research and explored how advanced tools like light and electron microscopes reveal the intricate structures of cells and molecules. The visit sparked curiosity and left students with a deeper appreciation for biology and scientific research.

The next day, on 4th October 2024, students from classes 9 to 11 visited the Center for DNA Fingerprinting
and Diagnostics (CDFD). Renowned scientists introduced the center’s role in genetic research and diagnostics, covering fields like forensic science, medical diagnostics, molecular biology, and wildlife science. The tour included a detailed look at devices like the DNA Sequencer, Real-Time PCR, Confocal LSM, and Flow Cytometer, enhancing the students’; understanding of cutting-edge scientific tools.

Both visits were inspiring and engaging, fostering students’ interest in potential future careers in science.
