Report on the Interact Club Activity Adolescent health and Hygiene
As part of the Interact Club activities the club organised talks with doctors to help students of middle school to understand the transitions – physical, social, emotional, and intellectual in their formative years.
The groups were age specific and addressed by experts in fields of psychology and personal health and hygiene.
Class 6 girls were introduced to the developmental changes that they would experience in their threshold to adolescence. Ms. Shruti (Hope Trust) addressed the children with a general introduction to the topics like acceptance, self image and self worth and also answered questions related to menstruation and physical, emotional and mental changes.
Class 7 and 8 boys had a session with Dr. Harini Atturu (Psychiatrist Care Hospital). She touched upon various aspects of growing up like physical, behavioural, emotional, and psychological changes. She also emphasised on the concept of self image, bullying and risk taking activities which may be dangerous and must be avoided. Nutrition and exercise was also touched upon and questions were answered to clarify the doubts if any.
Class 7 and 8 girls had an interaction with Dr. Abhinaya Alluri (Gynaecologist Care Hospital). She spoke elaborately on the importance of health and hygiene among girls and the problems that they may face and how to overcome them. She also warned the students about the common misconceptions and enlisted ways and means for emotional and psychological well being.
Overall the three sessions spread across 4 periods were very informative and enlightening and answered most of the queries the young minds are bogged down with.
You could see children sparkling with enlightment and happiness, a day well spent with fun and learning.
