The Round Square Conference is an inspiring event that brings together students from around the world, fostering a unique blend of learning and adventure. Through a variety of activities, workshops, and discussions, participants engage in meaningful dialogue on global issues, enhancing their understanding of different cultures and perspectives. The conference emphasizes the Round Square principles—internationalism, democracy, environmentalism, adventure, leadership, and service—allowing students to develop essential skills for personal growth and global citizenship.
Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, proudly attended this year’s Round Square International Conference with our Principal, Dr. Skand Bali; our six student delegates; teacher delegate, Ms. Latha Madhuri; and our Round Square Representative, Ms. Prerna Ayyagari. The conference was held in the vibrant city of Bogotá,Colombia.
Our journey began with a flight from Hyderabad to Bogotá, with a stopover in the enchanting city of Istanbul. Students marveled at the stunning views of the Marmara Sea, enjoying the breathtaking contrast between historic and modern Istanbul. This picturesque experience set the tone for an unforgettable trip.
Upon arriving in Bogotá, conference participants reached the host school, where our students were welcomed into the homes of local families. This homestay provided a unique opportunity to experience Colombian hospitality, savor local cuisine, and immerse themselves in the culture.
The next day featured a grand inauguration ceremony hosted by the school. Students exchanged school pins, fostering connections with peers from around the globe. The keynote speech by Juanita Gobertus, highlighting Colombia’s journey of transformation, was both inspiring and thought-provoking. The day concluded with a stunning performance by the host school’s band, leaving the audience in awe.
In the following days, Baraza activities tested our students’ physical and mental strength. They engaged in hiking, zip-lining, and rope walking, while also immersing themselves in local culture through crafts, food, and community projects. Highlights included building a chicken shed and enjoying culinary delights like cheese-making and tasting fresh apricots and yogurt directly from the farm. These experiences were not only educational but also strengthened bonds among the participants. The final evening featured a vibrant cultural showcase of dance and music, creating memories to cherish.
The post-conference adventure in the Amazon was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Students embraced the wilderness with minimal supplies and no internet, trekking through diverse landscapes, sharing meals with indigenous communities, and relaxing in hammocks under the starry sky.
The conference truly embodied the IDEALS of Round Square, blending exposure, adventure, connection, and profound experiences.
