HPS MUN 2024
HPSMUN Edition 1 – October 25-26, 2024
The first chapter of HPS Model United Nations (MUN) conference took place on the 25 th and 26 th October, 2024. It was a delight to see over 150 students from Grades 5 to 8 of our school taking part in this event. This vibrant event showcased the skills and dedication of young delegates as they navigated complex global issues with insight and determination. The conference was led by a diligent Executive Board comprising students from Grades 9 to 12, who skillfully guided discussions, maintained order, and provided invaluable feedback to the delegates.
Committees and Agendas-
This conference featured six committees, each addressing a pressing global issue relevant to international affairs and the current geopolitical climate.
UNICEF Committee on Protecting Children’s Rights in Conflict Zones
This Committee discussed the serious consequences of conflicts faced by children and proposed effective solutions. Through deliberations, the committee ensured that children’s protection and well-being remained at the centre of international efforts in the face of continued global strife.
DISEC Committee on Enhancing Global Cybersecurity
Delegates in the Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) discussed the urgent topic of “Enhancing Global Cybersecurity: Mitigating the Threats of Cyber Warfare”.
A resolution encompassing all the enforceable solutions proposed by delegates was passed as
the final committee session came to a close.
WHO Committee on Trauma Rehabilitation Needs in Gaza
The World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Committee met to discuss “Estimating Trauma Rehabilitation Needs in Gaza using Injury Data from Emergency Medical Teams”.
Delegates studied injury data from recent wars, thereby emphasising upon the critical need for comprehensive trauma rehabilitation tools. As the committee’s debates advanced, the goal was to establish actionable measures to enhance healthcare outcomes (focusing on trauma rehabilitation) for people affected by regional violence.
The committee passed a resolution calling for a coordinated approach in addressing the long- term needs of Gaza victims.
Lok Sabha
The discussion in this committee was concerning the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. The committee of Lok Sabha deliberated upon this specific matter, emphasizing the need for reform, discussing the implementation of artificial intelligence to prevent such malpractices. Heated debates on the government’s failure in this direction was a testimony to the concern that needs to be addressed soon.
ECOSOC
The delegates of ECOSOC discussed the presence of multinational companies in countries playing a major role in the increasing economic inequalities. The controversial presence of these MNCs brings both opportunity and severe inequality because these corporations often prioritize wealth over welfare. The Argentina Economic Crisis led to a series of debates in this connection. To protect one’s own country from such a crisis, the delegates tried to come up with innovative solutions.
UNSC
The United Nations Security Council discussed the urgency to address the humanitarian rights- especially in the light of the Sudan and Yemen people— two populations enduring the world’s worst crises yet. Suggestions were drafted for environmental restoration, military aid, and development of infrastructure for the same.
