A Trip to Europe

EUROPE MEMOIRS

The school trip to Europe revealed its rich mosaic of cultures, traditions, languages and fascinating history. This educational journey began in Paris with the visit to the captivating Louvre Museum where we saw some world-renowned artworks, including the Mona Lisa. Walking through the museum was like stepping into history while cruising on the Seine River, we were enchanted by the city’s beautiful architecture. The visit to the Eiffel Tower, offered a stunning panoramic view of Paris and stepping into the magical world of Disneyland was each child’s dream come true.

We then travelled to Geneva, Switzerland, where we toured CERN, home to the world’s largest particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider. Witnessing this marvel of modern science was inspiring! The following day included stops at the iconic Broken Chair sculpture, a symbol of opposition to landmines, and the United Nations Office, where we learned about global diplomacy. We also visited the Jet d’Eau and indulged in a tour of the Lindt Chocolate Factory, discovering the fascinating process of chocolate-making and sampling some delicious treats.

Our journey continued to Zurich, where we took an exhilarating ride on the Titlis Rotair to the summit of Mt. Titlis. To our delight, we experienced snowfall—a magical moment that added to the beauty of the Swiss Alps.

In Italy, we visited the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Pisa Cathedral, both stunning examples of Italian architecture. In Rome, we explored the iconic Colosseum, where gladiators once fought, and the ancient Roman Forum. Vatican City was a true highlight, where we had the privilege of visiting St. Peter’s Basilica, one of the holiest sites for Christians around the world. We marveled at Michelangelo’s awe-inspiring artwork and the grandeur of the basilica. Saint Peter’s Square, with its beautiful colonnades was breathtaking.

Florence was the last stop where we visited the majestic Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral with its impressive dome designed by Brunelleschi. We also explored the historic Palazzo Vecchio which provided us with insight into the rich history of the city.

Throughout our travel, we indulged in local cuisines, from savory crêpes and fresh baguettes in France to hearty fondue and fine Swiss chocolates in Switzerland. Italy offered us delicious pasta, pizza and gelato. Each meal was a new experience, connecting us to the culture and traditions of each place.

Finally it was time to bid goodbye to Europe.  As we thanked our bus driver, he extended a warm invitation to visit Poland- the country to which he belonged. The trip to Europe was steeped in learning- art, literature, culture, history, science- all in one big classroom,  leaving us with cherished memories, new friendships, and a deeper appreciation of the world.
