In a remarkable display of dedication and passion, Ashritha Rao Ponnala and Nitya Kairavi Vemulapalli, two Class 11 students from The Hyderabad Public School, emerged as esteemed representatives of the youth at COP 28 in Dubai. Their compelling advocacy highlighted the urgent need for immediate climate action by governments, emphasizing the importance of addressing environmental challenges promptly.
Guided by the expertise and mentorship of Ms. Usha Sudhir and Ms. Annapurna, Ashritha and Nitya eloquently deliberated on critical climate issues confronting India. Their insights underscored the necessity for proactive measures, urging governments to take decisive actions for the well-being of the planet and future generations.
The dynamic duo passionately urged authorities to nurture the dreams of the youth, rallying for empowerment, equipping, and prompt action. Their powerful message, encapsulated in the slogan “Join Green Rising,” resonated deeply with the COP 28 audience.
Actively participating in panel discussions, Ashritha and Nitya posed insightful questions, contributing meaningfully to the global dialogue on climate change. Nitya’s engagement extended beyond COP 28, presenting the manifesto to various stakeholders, including academic researchers, company heads, and the Canadian ambassador of climate change.
Nitya’s initiative in suggesting the establishment of global youth councils and her engagement with high-profile stakeholders, including Environment Minister Shri Bhupendra Yadav, showcase her dedication to addressing climate issues. The official accreditation from UNFCCC and recognition as a global lead with #Decarbonize are well-deserved acknowledgments of her efforts.
The COP 28 meeting, held from December 3rd to 12th, brought together leaders, experts, and advocates from around the world to confront the critical issues of climate change.
