Spic Macay – Bihu Dance

Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY)  organized  Bihu Dance  performance by Ranjit Kumar Gogoi & Team  on Monday,9th September 2019. SPIC MACAY is a voluntary , non – profit organization which seeks to conserve and promote awareness of the heritage & culture of India amongst the youth of the country. Bihu dance is traditionally performed  at the onset of spring or Rongali Bihu festival, a festival of the farming  community. This joyous dance is performed by young boys and girls  & includes brisk dancing steps and rapid hand movements. They wear  traditional  Assamese clothes like dhoti-gamocha for male dancers  &  mekhala-chador for female dancers.

Ranjit Kumar Gogoi was initiated into dance by Guru Tuki Oja Dhol Badana & received choreography training from Shri Bansi Kaul. He has worked extensively  in the singing , choreography, music composition & Direction-a true ambassador of Assam. He was accompanied by Chandra Hira on flute, Shiva Prasad Barauh-Drummer 1 and Binanda Barauh-Drunmmer 2. The dancers were Mitali bala Boro, Deep Shikha Bharali, Ganga Basumatary & Priyank Sonowal.
