The Annual Sports Day 2019

The Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet, held its Annual Sports Day on the 9th November, 2019 at the Basalath Jah Stadium from 2 pm onwards to showcase the sporting talents of its athletes. The grandeur of this event is truly unmatched in the city.

The programme commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest, Mr. Ajit Agarkar, former International Cricketer, Indian Cricket Team who was welcomed by the Board of Governors, the Principal Mr. Skand Bali and Vice Principal Mrs. Amritha Chandra Raju.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Ajay Agarkar lit the Meet Flame and handed it over to the school Games Captains R. Mahesh Kumar & Nidhi Rai. The oath taking ceremony was followed by the hoisting of the flags and declaring the Sports Meet open. Balloons in the vibrant colours of the four houses were released into the blue sky to commemorate the most important event of the school.

The celebrations began with a March past by all the four Houses led by the Head Boy Mihiran Chaudary & Head Girl Isha Gandham. This filled the hearts of everyone with the spirit of sportsmanship and unity.

An energizing Equestrian display of cantering, trotting and galloping set the tone for the rest of the events. In the show jumping event, the stamina, speed, and flexibility of the horses was displayed, along with the relationship that the horse has with its rider.

Following immediately thereafter were the track and field events. As the students’ wild cheers rent the air, the athletes, with grit and determination, raced to achieve victory and glory for their respective houses. The most awaited event of the day, the 100 m Senior Boys & Girls, saw Lazim of the Nagarjuna House & Nitya Tadla of Taxila House being declared as the fastest runners of the school.

Subsequently, the students of Class 4 & 5 dressed in saffron,white and green left the audience awe-struck with their colourful display of Calisthenics. Their colourful dresses and young energy captivated the audience leaving them smiling and waiting with enthusiasm for the next event.

Then the boys of Classes 6, 7 and 8 dominated the show with their ‘Zumba Dance”.This amplified the energy on the field and left the audience spellbound.

In the ‘Oneness with Creation’ Yoga & rope Mallakhamb display 84 students from classes 4 to 10 displayed different asana on rope and through their formations showcased mountains, rivers, fields and chakra to convey man’s cohesion with nature.

Another mesmerizing  performance which left the audience completely mesmerised was the Martial Arts display.

In the ‘Aero Super Stars ‘ aerobic display 180 girls of classes 6,7 & 8 performed to groovy melodies to clear our misconceptions about physical fitness, thereby making it seem fun.

It was a feast for the eyes to see the staff vs. students Tug-O-War.  It had the entire audience enthralled as staff and the students tugged hard to win, engaging their muscular strength to the fullest. The staff won fair and square.

The evening ended with the closing March Past. The Principal,Dr. Skand Bali, read out an impressive Sports Report and lauded the achievements of the students.

The Chief Guest in his address commended the dedication, devotion and perseverance shown by the students on the field. He exhorted the students to keep the HPS flag flying high. He appealed to the parents to let the children grow through participating in extracurricular activities, a variety of which are pursued at HPS, the cradle for excellence.

This was followed by the prize distribution with children cheering their Houses.  The Nagarjuna House stood first in the March Past whereas the Nalanda House won the overall shield.

This sporting event wouldn’t be anywhere near complete without the coordination, commitment and enthusiasm shown by everyone who did their jobs flawlessly.

This day will indeed be a fond reminder of the fact that ‘The will to win is important but the will to prepare is vital’.
